INTERNET SAFETY TALKS – Talking to your child about the Internet

The Tipperary Branch of the National Parents Council – Primary has arranged two talks on Internet Safety in the forthcoming weeks. This is a subject which we know is of great interest and concern to parents and we hope these talks will be of help and assistance to you.

INTERNET SAFETY TALKS – Talking to your child about the Internet

These sessions focus on what children are doing on line, why the internet is so popular, what are the risks and what you as a parent can do to protect your child while they are online. It looks at the most popular sites children are using and strategies for improving communication between parents and children and negotiating boundaries for their internet use. Parents will be introduced to strategies to help their children be responsible, effective and safer Internet users.

‘Supporting parents to support their children’s mental health and well being’
Positive mental health and wellbeing enables young people to lead fulfilling lives. It is recognised that the family is the primary source of nurturing and support for children and the promotion of their positive mental health.

This programme supports parents to encourage and promote positive mental health and wellbeing in their children. The programme also explores how the building of resilience in children helps them to manage and cope with the day to day stresses of life as they occur

Parents who attend this session will:
1.      Explore the factors that influence mental health and well being in their child.
2.      Learn how to build and nurture resilience within their own child.
3.      Be given tips on how best to support their child’s positive mental health and wellbeing.

Parents Council AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Scoil Mhuire Parents Council will be held on Thursday October 16th at 8pm in the school. All parents are welcome.

Racenight cheque presentation.

Following the recent fundraising Racenight held in conjunction with the local GAA the school raised over €2500.  Thanks to all those who contributed and/or helped out. The money raised has allowed us to purchase a new interactive whiteboard meaning all class rooms now have an interactive whiteboard.

Sensory Garden Update.

A lot of work done on the new Sensory Garden over the summer. It has been a slow process and very time consuming for those involved but it will be worth it in the end. The area has been landscaped and grass seeds were sown a few weeks ago and are already very green.

Planting will begin shortly and the kids will become more involved from here on in.

Clonmel National School Rewards Programme

As they approach their 5th year in business Crunch Retail in the Showgrounds in Clonmel have announced their “Clonmel National School Rewards Programme”.  Under this scheme they will reward one of the national Schools in the Clonmel area with a contribution of 2c for every customer transaction in their shops in Clonmel (Crunch Supermarket & Everything 2,4,6,8,10 both in the Showgrounds) for the months of July and August 2014.

There are 13 National Schools in the Clonmel area and our own Scoil Mhuire Newcastle is among those.  However only one of the 13 will be chosen for this reward.  The selection will be based on a vote of customers of Crunch and Everything 2,4,6,8,10.  Starting on 12th May and running until the 31st May every customer in their shops will have the opportunity to vote for a school of their choice. The winning school will be the one with the most votes in this period.  That school will be the one which will receive a donation of 2c for every customer transaction for June, July and August.

Customers can vote as many times as they shop from 12th May to 31st May.  They will be updating the Vote tallies regularly on their Facebook page during that period.

If you are in the Showgrounds take a look in Crunch and Everything 2,4,6,8,10. If you decide to buy something make sure you vote for Scoil Mhuire Newcastle.  And pass the word to all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc.  We’re a small school but perhaps what we lack in numbers we can make up for in enthusiasm.
